Still Standing

Well, I’ve been to hell and back
I’ve lost everything, in fact
I’ve seen the worst of it all
And picked myself up after every fall.

I’ve been tested, pushed, and tried
Just to keep it all together inside.
Say what you will, say what you may
I’ll still go on, doing it my way.

All I’ve learned from the past
Is how quickly good things never last.
Now I’ve gotta look straight ahead
And find a way to rebuild instead.

I don’t need you
Looking down on me
I can’t be everything
You want me to be.

Won’t you please just tell me
How I’m supposed to be
The one who holds it all together
While giving every piece of me forever?

I don’t need you
Looking down on me
I can’t be everything
You want me to be.

No, I can’t promise this anymore
Bet I’ll watch you walk right out that door.
Why can’t you hear what I’m saying?
I’m not ready to join these games you’re playing.

I don’t feel like being kicked around
It hurts even more when I’m already down.
I can tell you don’t have a clue
About the real world; it’s been handed to you.

This world I hold inside of me
Why can’t you learn to let it be?
I don’t need the view from inside your eyes
I’ve already seen where the bottom lies.

I don’t need you
Looking down on me
I can’t be everything
You want me to be.

I won’t be looking back
When it all comes down.
I won’t fight to hold on
When there’s nothing left to hold on to.

I’ve given enough, I’ve carried my share
I’ve spent too long pretending to care.
You can keep your expectations and your view
I’m done losing myself trying to please you.

I don’t need you
Looking down on me
I can’t be everything
You want me to be.

And if I fall, I’ll find my way
I’ve survived worse than yesterday.
I may be broken, but I’m still standing
And this time, my life is in my own hands.
